A heat exchanger (HE) is a device for transferring heat from one medium to another. Mediums (heat carriers) can be liquid and gaseous. Industrial heat exchange equipment is an integral part of power plants and is actively used in food, chemical, oil and gas industries, housing and utilities. This type of equipment is mainly used for heating-cooling of circulating liquids: water, oil, electrolyte, various emulsions.

TYPES OF HEAT EXCHANGERS

  • Surface. The media exchange heat through the walls of the heat-conducting material. Heat is transferred from the primary coolant to the heat exchange surface and then to the secondary coolant. Contact surfaces are plates or tubes.
  • Mixing surfaces. Heat is transferred directly between mixing media. These units are structurally simpler than surface units, but are only suitable for applications where the heat transfer media can be mixed. They include barboters, cooling towers, nozzle heaters.

Surface heat exchangers are divided into regenerative and recuperative units:
  • Regenerative (regenerators). Heat is transferred by alternating contact of media of different temperatures with a single surface of the device. The movement of heat carriers is periodic: warm stream - cold stream.
  • Recuperative. The media exchange heat continuously through a separating surface. The direction of flow is the same or opposite, but the paths do not change alternately (unlike regenerators) and the heat exchange process is stationary.

In simple situations, when high heat transfer is not required, single-pass heat exchangers are relevant - they are structurally simpler, less frequently serviced and less fouled. Multi-pass units are used when it is necessary to increase the overall heat transfer coefficient. This is achieved by increasing the area of contact between the media and the heat exchange surface.

    QUENCHING AND EVAPORATION MACHINES, BORSIG

Quenching and evaporation apparatus (HEA) is a tubular heat exchanger for cooling and quenching of gas streams, which are emitted during various technological processes.
. HEA is the main element of installations for production of ethylene, propylene and other olefins from hydrocarbon raw materials.

    HEAT EXCHANGERS WITH ANODE PROTECTION

Heat exchangers with anode protection are used for cooling sulfuric acid. The high temperature and concentration of the acid causes corrosion of the commonly used material. Stainless steel can be protected in such cases by anodic passivation of the metal surface. During anodic polarization, if the current reaches a sufficient value, a passivation film with high corrosion resistance is formed on the metal surface. In case of further current supply, but with a lower value, the metal surface remains in a passive state, which can lead to almost complete cessation of corrosion damage.
